It is hard to measure popularity in numerical terms. The job that most people apply for may not be the most popular, but it may be abnormally well paid. It is desirable for other reasons, for the pay is high enough to make people put up with aspects they may not like. A job that rarely comes up in the jobs market place may receive a lot of applications, but this does not mean it is highly popular, simply that such jobs are hard to find, and so all candidates apply for the same one. They may teach at elementary or secondary level.
